    Hi friends,

    The sun is shining outside, it's a pleasure in the garden, mud and sun and an excellent laundry day!


    But, tomorrow is the shortest day and the longest night of the year. This means, as far as the crops are concerned, that it is the peak of winter. Personally, I cannot complain, because it's so nice outside and we also had a good rain some days ago.... confusing, not only to us, today my kids went out to school wrapped up in at least 3 long thick layers of clothing.

    Hi Everyone,

    That's it, the pumpkin season has ended for this year! Pumpkins will return towards the end of next summer.

    During Hanukkah it is customary to eat cheese dishes. And cheese and greens Latkas are a real delicacy.

    So, about mustard leaves and why cheese in Hanukkah?

    Hanukka and Rosh Chodesh Tevet are celebrated in North African communities as the "girls holiday" (Eid al Banat"עיד אל בנאת"), in memory of Judith, the heroine who saved us. The book of Judith is an "external" book to the Tanach and is not included in it.

  • Nero, leeks and latkes 7/12/09

    Hi, happy holiday,

     

    Lots of planting, sowing and weeding and weeding and weeding. Everything sprouts and grows so quickly because the sun is still warming, and, to the plants delight, the earth remains quite damp most of the time.

     

    As a big believer in "a time for every vegetable under the sun" and eating what is in season at the time, I am sending you a collection of latke recipes - but not from potatoes. Besides, I wanted very much to link this to what the Maccabees ate at the time, when of course there were no potatoes or yams in our country.
