  • organic winter spring?

    נכתב ע"י maggie בתאריך 23 בפברואר 2010 |

    Hi to all,

This week I was going to do the final winter planting and then slowly start to get organized for spring. I had already ordered the last of the seedlings of the Brassicaceae family (broccoli, cauliflower and cabbage) about six weeks ago. Of course, I ordered them without being able to anticipate the current unseasonable weather. Two and a half weeks ago, there were "warnings" of snow in our area. After these two weeks of summery weather, it requires much patience and a calm heart to accept that we may have to skip some of the winter planting and go directly into the spring.

  • organic cooriander 15/2/10

    Hi, everyone,
I am now going to take the plunge -- although there is a raging "Sharqiya" outside, I am going to walk on thin ice and write about coriander (Coriandrum Sativum, a member of the Apiaceae family).

  • organic garlic 1/2/10

    נכתב ע"י maggie בתאריך 1 בפברואר 2010 |

    Hi Friends,

Green garlic has a very short growing season. Garlic must be planted in the fall and can be harvested as green garlic for only a short period before the leaves dry out. In France they celebrate this time and harvest. Green garlic has a more gentle taste and may be eaten in its entirety raw in salads and sandwiches. It can also be used in cooking as regular dried garlic cloves are used.

So, this week, in honor of green garlic, we will learn about garlic from A to Z (actually aleph thru taph).
