  • !Simply Radishing

    There are some phrases that mind boggling to me. Especially in Hebrew. Why is a "pea brain" an insult? 

    Each pea is unique and tasty. Maybe a "pea brain" should be someone who thinks out of the pod? The Hebrew equivalent is "Cabbage head". But cabbage has lots of layers. Maybe "cabbage head" should actually be one who thinks in a complex manner, with multiple inner levels of understanding?

    The radish also suffers from an unfavorable reputation (in Hebrew, at least) in terms of the expression - "Dry as a radish" which doesn't sound flattering at all.

  • Crossing fingers for rain

    The fact of the matter is, throughout the past week, it seemed like winter is not here at all. 

    August has passed and so has Sukkot, the last of the pilgrims, even those who glorified the event and actually walked (does anyone do that?) have already made it home, the decorations were removed, the sukkahs are stored in the attic, the etrogs have turned into jam and good mascot, but rain - none.

  • Pumpkin and Her Non-Evil Sisters...

    I was thinking of writing about the well-known association between pumpkin and Halloween, and the lovely custom of carving a pumpkin and placing a flashlight in it, but then I remembered the Native American story about the pumpkin's two sisters, and their sweet childhood together. 

    For some reason, when you think of a character's sisters from a fairy tale, they typically do not excel in social behavior.

  • Autumn trees

    In most parts of the country, we were not blessed with considerable effoliation.

    Everything here is either evergreen or completely dry starting in June, and only very few trees look like they are European and turn their leaves orange-yellow-red. Anyone who loves autumn longs to see this variety of colors, the fire that holds the foliage that was once green (metaphorically, of course, unlike summer fires, god forbid).
