  • Eating snacks?

    Winter is the snack season. We snack between meals, during meals, andin-betweenmeals we think about our next snack. 

    Sometimes we try drinking a cup of tea instead. The belly is not happy with this trick. “Carbohydrates! Fuel for heating!” is the call that comes from the depths of the stomach, which sounds like a distant rolling thunder.

  • Kings of the forest

    It’s a magical time now out in nature. The fields continue to grow vegetables and fruits this season - the lemons are weighing down on the tree branches to the ground.

    The cauliflowers are so white you can use them for lighting, and so firm and crunchy that you can imagine the sound they make between your teeth when chewed; There are plenty of beautiful green leaves, wonderful broccoli, crispy cucumbers, beets that will delight any oven and soup and spicy-sweet radishes, which come in a variety of colors.

  • Almonds, almonds, almonds

    I can talk about TuBishvatalot (and write about it no less). It is one of my favorite holidays. 



    First, because the stars of the show this time are the trees and fruits. In other holidays,people are the main motif, even with the Festival of Ingathering (Sukkot), the Festival of Reaping (Shavuot) or theFestival of Ripeness (Passover)which are farming holidays, farmers are people.

  • TuBishvat and the rules of thumb

    TuBishvatis here and can be felt in the air. 



    I don't mean this specific time during February, which feels a little empty – becausethe Tishrei holidays have passed and we've finished putting away the mess they left behind, and we look through the calendar to see when the next vacation is from school.

  • Is it a bird? Is it a fruit?

    The names of fruits and vegetables are typically somewhat related to their appearance, 


    Maybe the shape they form that might be reminiscent of something else (such as the avocado, which reminded the Aztecs of... well, testicles). Sometimes the name has to do with a noticeable feature of the fruit - like the color, or the taste.
