It seems that every time we turn on the stove the air conditioner is insulted, as if saying it’s made such an effort to cool us down, while we just turn on the oven not even caring that it will need to work harder….

This week I read a book about Darwin. It turns out that he was going for an entirely different career than the one he eventually ended up with.

And only an unexpected chain of events brought him aboard that Beagle ship as the sample collector for the scientists. But that's not what caught my attention in the story –it was that Darwin was an observant man.

Wow, what an outstanding heat wave hit us this weekend. It started out rather gently, you could say that it tricked us so we were not prepared for such hot weather: If we get rain in early May, we don't expect 38 degrees in the middle of May!

So we had rain, then a few days of quite pleasant weather, such that the Europeans get every summer for a few months (although in recent years they too have experienced unpleasant heat waves), and then Bang!mid-August heat.

The Jellyfish, oh, the Jellyfish. They took over every good spot. A particularly sea-loving friend wrote to me that she had come to the beach, which was entirely strewn with jellyfish, and decided to ignore them and get in, because how could she just settle for sand, the rhythmic tic-tac-tic of the Matkot and pop-sickles with this beautiful great big blue in the background.

On hot summer days, I like pouring in cool watermelon juice.

In the winter - vegetables that were cooked together in a stew and then embrace the stomach from the inside and make it warm and cozy.

Sweet melons….
