Maggie’s Garden operates according to permaculture, i.e., sustainable agriculture. Permaculture is based on balances in nature, sustainable inputs, and meticulous care of the environment. Our diversified vegetable garden is based on a natural balance between plant species. In contrast to monoculture, we use no dangerous chemicals that pollute crops or seep into the earth or ground water. Thus we can grow healthy and nutritious crops while protecting the environment. Our crops are grown according to season, harvested just before delivery, and packed into recycled cartons. The only energy burned in our garden is our own.
For vegetables, fruits, and other healthful products that we do not grow, we work with other small farmers and producers who operate according to the same principles and are likewise accredited by overseeing organizations such as Agrior, Secal, and IQC. In addition, all our products are certified kosher.
As part of our garden family, you are the backbone of permaculture in Israel. Whether you receive a weekly basket of seasonal vegetables or make a personalized order, it is you who keep the garden growing. Together, we are creating a healthier consumption system; a natural cooperation between growers, consumers, and the world that assures our current and future health. The vegetables you receive are natural, fresh, and healthful, straight from the earth, while the earth is protected from pollution by conventional agriculture, transport, and excessive advertising.
How do we work? On Saturday nights, we send out emails informing that our online ordering system is open for the upcoming week. By clicking on the appropriate link, you may make an online order. The computer will calculate the estimated cost of your order. Alternatively, you may make a standing order for a weekly box of seasonal vegetables. In this case, by clicking on the appropriate link, you can read the items expected to be in your basket. If there are last-minute changes (nature being nature), the website will be updated on the morning of the day your basket is to be delivered.
A regular basket costs 80 NIS and includes 9-11 kinds of vegetables. Unless otherwise noted, there will be about one kilogram of each kind. Some items, such as parsley and lettuce, are included as units rather than by weight. A large basket costs 110 NIS and includes an additional four kinds of vegetables, i.e., the quantity and variety of vegetables are larger than the regular basket. A fruit basket costs 30 NIS and usually includes three kinds of in-season fruits. Should you want, you may make a standing order for a weekly basket and order additional vegetables, fruits, sprouts, legumes, breads, eggs, oil, dried fruits, pasta, honey, cleaning products, etc.
The most convenient way to order is via our online computerized ordering system. However, if you prefer, we also accept email, fax, and phone orders.
