THE MANGO
From a shoe manufacturer named Mango, a film that won the best screenplay award, to extending and strengthening the effects of cannabis – here are some fun things to know about the organic mango:
Mango, Mangifera indica, is a tropical tree from the area of India to China and includes hundreds of species of which 5 were developed in Israel. Maya , Sheli, Nimrod , tango and Zerifin are the names of species developed in our country.
Israel grows almost all of the mangos consumed in our country and is not a small exporter of mangoes to Europe as well. Israeli production of Mangos began only 25 years ago . Kol hakavod!
The mango tree is an evergreen ( green leaves all year ) and can reach 40 meters in height and the diameter of its canopy can be as large as 10 meters. That's a pretty big tree!
Yellow, orange, red, green and purple are the colors of mango and the taste ranges from sweet to sour.
As befits a tropical fruit, the uses of the mango are varied: Eating the ripe fruit straight from the tree, desserts, salads, salted, pickled and more. Amba is made of unripe mango, dried and ground.
As a testament to this great tropical fruit, there is an Israeli film that won the best screenplay of the Haaretz newspaper called "Mango". There is a shoe company named Mango , and a singing group named "Mango".
I remember as a child I saw a mango only once in the country and it was at the home of the richest girl in the neighborhood. In Miami, Florida (tropical climate) my grandma gave me all the mangos I wanted to eat from the trees in her neighborhood. I felt like I was the richest girl in the world!
In general, I think that I and my son, Roi, can participate in the mango eating competition in the international Mango Festival held in India. There are also more festivals around the world glorifying mangoes.
An adult mango tree produces an average of 200 fruits in a season of only two months. That’s a lot!! There are records of trees in India that produced 1,500 fruit !!!
The mango peel is edible! You can just bite the fruit without peeling. Very easy and healthy. The organic mango peel contains all kinds of sulfenosites that strengthen the immune system and probably protect against all kinds of cancers.
The organic mango leaves, pits and bark are used in medicines in india for all kinds of illnesses.
Mango fruit is rich in iron, vitamin A and vitamin C.
The fruit also contains something called "terpenes" that apparently reinforce the effect of THC, the active ingredient of cannabis.
In India they also use the pits. They dry, roast and grind them and the powder obtained is used in cooking, in baking as flour, and in preparing drinks.
The pits contain an acid used in the soap industry, and can also be fed to cattle.
The mango fruit should be picked before ripening, in order not to fall and get bruised. It ripens at room temperature and then can be maintained in the refrigerator or frozen. Because it is a relatively short season, we recommend that you freeze enough cut mango to last till next season. Frozen mango is a treat in itself and excellent for shakes and desserts!
