Good week!
Last week we had problems with the deliveries and I thank each of you for your patience. Unfortunately, I must ask you for a little more patience.
The issue of delivery is at the top of my list and I am working on it. I hope to have it resolved soon. Of course, please share with us what we need to know. Sorry and thanks.
All will renew after the holidays !! (Naomi Shemer)
And, of course, the short but sweet rain, the temperature, the humidity and the dew are doing their jobs and it is really noticeable on the leaves. Despite that we are now able to grow some of these crops in the summer, the leaves much prefer the winter.
After the surprising first rain, the sun came back along with the autumn dryness…
The combination of warmth, like now, that is not yet the cold of winter, but with moisture and rain that we so missed, makes this a very productive time in the garden. At this time we gradually part from the summer crops that need heat and radiation. The very “wintery” crops that require cold are not yet ready, but all the winter "non-extremists" are now growing rapidly due to high temperature (for winter) but with the non-summer humidity. The conditions are excellent for these crops as well as for bugs who are also enjoying exactly the same elements.
It is a healthy time of renewal and refreshment in gardens. Fun for gardeners.
Now begins the time for roots, leaves and stems, as opposed to summer fruit. How do we know what is a fruit?
A fruit contains seeds. While we call tomatoes, eggplant, zucchini, cucumbers, pumpkins, etc. vegetables, botanically they are fruit. I wrote more about it here.
We already see Swiss chard in two colors, tall and full of juice and more crunchy. The kale already looks like a different kale than that which grew in the summer. It has wider leaves to absorb more radiation from the distancing sun. We see that in all the leaves.
In the root department – radishes of different types, beets!! We so missed them and we are still waiting for carrots…
In the stem department – we don’t speak much of them, we have kohlrabi and fennel. Yes, these are thick and delicious stems. Yumm …
And today, a recipe for an autumn salad that you can serve with a lot of sauce on quinoa and get a great meal!
2 pcs medium organic kohlrabi
a bunch of Organic radishes
2 pcs medium organic beets
2 pcs medium organic fennel
4 stalks celery
Fenugreek sprouts
Walnuts
Olive oil
lemon juice
salt and pepper
Cut all the vegetables into tiny sticks and place in a bowl. Pour over the olive oil, lemon and seasoning. Mix well with the hands so the vegetables will absorb. Add the sprouts and nuts.
Bon Apetit!
I hope that the first rain we received is a hint of what is yet to come, that will clean, renew, saturate and grow …
Have a good week, of successful new stuff!
To Health!
