DEODORANT
Along with the scent of spring, cleaning for pesach and the renewal that comes in this season, we also return to being more exposed to the sun. Accordingly, I recommend to you our homemade product, one of my favorites, Avivim deodorant cream.
Most of us use deodorant. Did you ever examine your deodorant? Do you know what materials it contains?
There are questions you should ask:
-
What is “conventional deodorant” made of?
How does it prevent the body odors?
Is it all good for me?
I will answer these questions at the end.
"Deodorant Avivim" is our homemade deodorant made by my sister Aviva. It is the best that you can get.
To be on the bright and simple side (always more pleasant), here is the list of components of our deodorant cream as well as their purposes / actions / effects.
Baking Soda – this is a common salt – sodium bicarbonate. It is used in food as a מתפיח in baking and as an anti-acid in acidic foods because it is basic (alkaline).
Its purpose is to kill bacteria that interact with sweat to cause the bad smell of sweat. Bacteria require an acidic environment.
It not only neutralizes odors, it is also effective in treating various skin fungi (I have already applied our deodorant to athletes' feet in my family).
Coconut butter – this nourishes the skin (and the body when you eat it) and relieves skin irritations.
It is also anti-inflammatory, anti-fungal, anti-parasitic.
This natural oil is responsible for the viscosity of the deodorant cream. It is hard in the cold and soft in the heat (summer). The properties of the deodorant do not change with the viscosity 🙂
Corn starch – a very gentle and smooth powder that gives our deodorant an even more smooth and creamy texture.
Essential oils – for a gentle and pleasant smell. It comes in 2 fragrances:
- Rosemary and Lavender – Rosemary is known as a pain reliever, memory sharpener, energizer, respiratory aid and superior to the skin. Lavender is known to soothe and treat tension, stress and insomnia. Disinfects and treats skin problems.
- Lemon grass and Geranium – Lemon grass is known for its antiseptic properties and for preventing infections. It can relieve breathing problems and muscle pain. Geranium is anti-inflammatory and anti-fungus. It is known to revive and balance the oiliness of the skin. Both of them repel insects and mosquitoes.
That’s it!! All of the ingredients are edible and therefore there is no fear in applying on the skin.
Our deodorant cream comes in a small jar and is spread in the armpit with the finger, so we have full control over the amount. Only a small amount is needed. The small jar lasts a long time.
Warning: We suggest that you do not use commercial deodorants. The following substances usually found in "normal" deodorants should be avoided:
Aluminum salts – This prevents perspiration. When you are hot, you need to sweat. Sweating is a natural process and necessary for the metabolic processes and the regulation of the body's temperature, and we do not want to disrupt it. Perspiration is also essential for the removal of pollutants and metals from our bodies. There are also studies showing that exposure to aluminum can damage the nervous system, can lead to cancer and who knows what else.
Magnesium and talcum powder – These have been shown to be related to the development of tumors and are similar to asbestos.
Parabens are helpful for the growth of bacteria and are associated with irritation and sensitivity and an increase in the incidence of breast cancer.
Synthetic fragrances are usually produced from petroleum products. It is interesting that there is no obligation for companies to list these complex chemicals on their labels!!! They may be related to a variety of allergic reactions, hormonal problems, asthma and even fertility, birth defects, cancer ..
SLS, SLE and its variety of names – These cause a huge amount of skin problems. Beware of this also in shampoo and soaps 🙁
Have a great week. We wish everyone a sunny week with pleasant smells from the outside and from us.
To health!
Yours,
Maggie and the garden staff
