Spring has come and Passover is here and we are rejoicing!
This week all is as usual. Next week we will take our Passover vacation (our only annual vacation). We recommend that everyone invest another moment of thought about what else is needed for the holiday so you can receive it this week.
Remember, during the week of Hol HaMoed there will be no deliveries.
In the week following the holiday, the Jerusalemites who are accustomed to receiving their boxes on Monday will receive their delivery on Wednesday instead. It might be a little later in the day than usual because we are going to work a double shift that day.
Immediately after the holiday – our new farm shop opens with an organic juice bar. Please come visit!! 10 Hayetzira Street, Maoz Zion. We're already on Waze. Please tell all of your friends!! It will be fun!
Again we are in a transition season, which is often mixed up. It is fun to eat the winter green and leafy vegetables in the warm sun. For two weeks now we have been eating sweet melons – a summer crop! We have already enjoyed pleasant sunshine and warm days but we still hope for a little more rain. It could happen.
The traditional Passover plate:
Haroset – a mixture of all kinds of nuts and fruits, moistened with wine that representing the blood of the Israelites that was spilled in Egypt. Take apples and dates, almonds and dried fruits, chop and mix all together, and there you have it – charoset.
Egg – which reminds us of the destruction of the Temple. Round, fresh, healthy and tasty (especially with salt).
Hazeret – reminds us of the bitter and difficult life in Egypt. It is better to grind the root of the radish, otherwise eating will be too difficult to bear. Last year we prepared a "Hazeret" from black radishes. It was tasty.
Maror – lettuce leaves ?? Our Organic lettuce is not yet suffering from the heat and therefore not really bitter. But a custom is a custom, and we like lettuce.
Karpas – celery. On this special night we open the meal with a vegetable rather than bread. That's Ma Nishtana – one of the special things about Pesach. I read somewhere that the origin of the custom was in the Roman aristocracy, where an appetizer was served which was usually a vegetable. We recommend opening each meal every day with a vegetable, and also ending it with some kind of plant…
Zroa – is still strong and on the rise !! We are prepared and ready for a new season in the garden.
Have a happy and organic Passover for everyone!
