The small and sweet orange: The organic clementine
I recently thought of priests. No, I did not go for a guided walk in Latrun or anywhere else where people walk silently in robes. But the connection between priests and the affinity for plant hybridization suddenly intrigued me-perhaps it was because I have so many free hours, far from the hustle and bustle of this world? How was it that one priest, Mendel, was so successful with the crosses of legumes that he now appears in the biology books of high school students; and another one, a French priest named Kalman, took a bitter orange, hybridized it with a tangerine, and got an orange colored fruit named after him, the Clementine?
Vitamin C Ladies and Gentlemen, Vitamin C
It is true that many of the organic fruits of winter are blessed with vitamin C, but it is impossible to exaggerate its nutritional benefits: it strengthens the immune system, aids in iron absorption, good for oral hygiene, and some claim also for the “power of man”, slows the aging of body cells, and supports renal function. Besides these, organic clementines also contain folic acid, beta carotene, lycopene, and vitamin A which is known as a good antioxidant and a close friend of healthy eyes, magnesium, potassium, phosphorus and calcium. The clementine is also blessed with an abundance of nutritional fiber. All of this beauty and health is packed in delicious orange segments…
Organic Clementine – Uses you may not have thought of:
Aromatic art projects – The son of a friend of mine came back from kindergarten completely satisfied with himself-and with the mobile he made from Clementine peels. The children cut out shapes of citrus peel with little cutters, made a hole in the middle and put them into the oven to dry. They then hung them on strings to make mobiles. how nice! If you have a reasonable pair of hands, you can make beautiful things from organic clementine peels. Another example is an aromatic candle, made from the peel of half an organic clementine, oil, and a few drops of your favorite ether oil.
