Trying Pineapple

Trying pineapples…

This week, for a few days, I walked around with my hands smelling of pineapple. It just so happened that in the morning I unpacked some pineapples from the cartons to their new temporary home on the shelf in the store, and the aroma stayed with me all day. I touched a lot of other fruits and vegetables, I weighed, examined, packed, hugged (people, not just vegetables) and my hands stubbornly kept on smelling of pineapple.

I can assure you that it's a very wonderful smell even after a few hours. If it wouldn’t look so strange, I would definitely walk around the store sniffing my hands (but the truth is that I don’t have to, the smell is pleasantly noticeable from arms reach). It smells so tropical, so delicate and sweet, that even though I had a full and busy workday I felt like I was on the beach of an island, the sea waves lapping at my feet.

Organic pineapple not only smells good (and tastes great) also has distinct health benefits. A full glass of this fragrant tropical fruit will provide you with the full dose of vitamin C required for an average adult each day. The organic pineapple is also full of B vitamins, which are essential for the various processes that occur in our body – healthy hair and nails, proper functioning of the nervous system, ongoing operation of the digestive system and many other important functions. In addition, pineapple also contains folic acid, which is recommended at the beginning of pregnancy and even before it, to "create reservoirs." It also contains manganese, which is a relatively rare element that is recommended as useful in protecting the skin from the damage of sunlight and radiation and to revive skin that is wrinkled and looks less young (not surprising in a tropical fruit), and magnesium, potassium and beta carotene. A whole bonus package in a sweet yellow fruit.  Do you know a better way to supply yourself with vitamins?

Pineapple is a summer fruit, typically for light meals. However, it also makes other food easier to digest. The bromelain in the pineapple helps to break down proteins, thus helping the body decompose the food consumed into the building blocks of which it is constituted, and the nutritional fiber it contains helps the digestion process. Since pineapple has plenty of water in it, it helps you feel full without loading the body with lots of calories. The same substance, bromelain, also works well to help you manage pain and resolve inflammation. It also helps with parasites that sometimes sneak into the intestines…

Despite the tendency to see the organic pineapple as the dessert part of the meal, it can be easily incorporated into any dish, including the salad dishes at the beginning of the meal: Mix it with coriander (yes, coriander), avocado, sweetened pecans and a chili pepper for the brave, and you get a salad that is bursting with surprising flavors, refreshing and light.

For health!
